So the birthday on saturday continues on sunday… PG and I visited the King’s palace, a part of it is open for the visitors and a part of it is closed for that’s where His Highness Maharaja Arvind Sinhji of Mewar lives with his family. the gate that has been closed for ages. but i love the majestic look it has.
one more thing i loved was the kingdom emblem that stays on the wall even after ages in gold clearly shining in the sun whispering in the air the royal flair. the emblem has the king and the common man on each side of a picture that depicts the land the Mewar.
the sun on the top is Surya Dev to the King. the God they believe in. the guide at the palace told us the King began his day by worshiping the Sun from his balcony and ended by doing the same. he has two balconies(east n west side of the room) specially constructed so he can have a glimpse of the Sun before having water or breakfast. wow! in the monsoon days when the sun plays hide and seek he got a huge round sun made of gold on one the walls. the golden sun still shines like new.
the staircase from the temple to one of the most beautiful verandah in the palace. the tiles lining on the stairway were from England sometime in the early 20th century. Magnificent !!
this is the peacock verandah. extremely beautiful.. if you have seen the film ‘guide‘ starring Dev Anand, you would have seen Waheeda Rehman dancing on the tunes of aaj phir jeene ki tamanna hai in this palace.
this below is the widow queen’s meeting room. whichever queen had to spend the rest of her life as a widow had to struggle with lots of regulations in the olden royal days. she wasnt allowed to go out and had a different room and temple to pray. people who wanted to meet her had to come here and yet it was no less than luxurious. in the far right side is the 100 year old fan with 4 blades. and guess what… this item from england still works!
so if the widow queen’s room was so pretty… what did the ruling queen had?? THIS –
/div> THE SHEESH MAHAL aka the exquisite suite made of glass, glass floor, tinted glass walls, designed glass in the ceiling and windows and an ivory door with gold rivets ! omg…. this queen had a life every woman dreams of. she had a separate lobby where her maids slept; a separate bathing tub made out of marble and 118 best cars she can choose from when she wanted to take a stroll in the city. Udaipur has mesmerized me and i want to go there once again. to listen to its historical yarns and pompous palace visits. listen to this song and look at the pictures again. a strong beautiful feeling…
