Needless to say, I have been like all other working moms we know around us- super busy since the summer break started. There is a constant need to keep the kids busy since its scorching hot outside and just so mundane in the house. It’s a different story if you have a separate play area for the kid or even a younger/older sibling to keep company and sadly I have none!!
I often have to think of various new activities to keep D busy.
Step1: Firstly, was to make him count all his piggy bank coins and lay them out in 1’s 2’s 5’s and 10’s …
I was down with my chums and just needed to apply a cucumber pack on my face, switch on the a.c to the lowest and dose off! but with this wonder kid around I could hardly wink my eyes, forget getting some rest or a nap 🙁
Step 2: Ask the little active brain to count if he can to find the sum of all the stacks of 10 coins each he has made.
Step 3: give him a paper and crayons much in advance — before application of the cucumber pack– to write or draw what he wanted to buy from all his savings !! My little one drew something so pretty and abstract that I needed him to describe it all to me. 😀
Step 4: doze off next to the toddler while he is super busy at work and won’t disturb the mommy in pain
Step 5: the toddler often dozes off next to you cuddled up
Step 6: wake up; refreshed ! And help count again and see the sum amount… add a few coins to finish it off in a round figure.
excited little fellow filled an orange pouch with all the coins
Step 7: Ask the kiddo to handover the wishlist ! this is always the most exciting part! 🙂
making choices is tough
Step 8: GO to the supermarket with him and buy whatever he wants from the racks … healthy , unhealthy, packaged or raw, even if it’s something he already owns!
he loves dragging the orange cart around on his own
Step 9: let him pay in change. watch him be super happy… slip in some cash bills to the counter guy if they amount exceeds their savings
Step 10: let the kiddo carry it all home all by himself ! see the joy of unpacking, try click a few pics and pass it on the dad or family group.
happy baby makes a happy mommy
Step 11: BE PROUD OF THE BIG BABY AND PLANT LOTS OF KISSES ON THE LITTLE KANGAROO
p.s we bought a lot of things: this one below was a total waste of his money!!
Recently a lot of moms messaged me, a few I am now close to have even Whatsapp-ed me at odd hours asking what to carry and what not while travelling with a toddler.
Firstly, I am so happy and indebted to those who trust my motherly instincts and ask for suggestions.
Secondly, I understand why they ask. My husband and I are very fond of travelling. There are destinations which we visit again and again because we love being there. I have traveled for holidays in my first , second and last trimester as well… as far as 300-400kms without having any issues. Thank you Lord for that… and My first short trip with the kiddo was when he was about 45days old while first big holiday trip was when he turned 6 months old… in between I was either attending weddings or too tired and sleeping on weekends .. lol !
And lastly, I socialize a lot and love to receive or pass on suggestions (not advises) to moms who believe I mean good for her and the little one. I take in suggestions as well, in a healthy way and it has always helped me except weight losing tips.. they never work and I don’t understand why !!
So lets make a list of major things required by moms:
So my husband and I just completed 6 blissful years of marriage. I have written about PG and me very often on the website but not quite sure if I have mentioned this earlier, nevertheless… everything is cuddly n cheesy on the anniversary day. 🙂
The anniversary date was falling on a Monday so like good parents and responsible workoholics we decided to visit a small deli for a snack and a late night movie on Sunday. He wasn’t sure if it was our 6th or 7th anniversary … and I jokingly added that we have had many people in our family and friend circle who were joining in all odds to make sure we didn’t even make it together for our 1st anniversary; we should throw a party for all of them and feed them for their defeat.
Am I the only one who thinks Indians are nossy?? That there is a squad of 100 relatives who want to play a crucial role in deciding who the young buds of the family should marry!!
Getting back to keeping the post mushy, our pic to mark the 7th official year to commence with.
clicking away at someone else’s wedding.
so how does one survive more than half a decade together and that too happily?
my little list of how to be married & happy:
To begin with, turning into 7 th year of marriage wasn’t difficult at all… what was difficult was to be happy and content.
1. be natural : right from the beginning show your bare Heart and Mind to your other half. It may be difficult for him/her to accept certain habits and affinity that make you a weirdo initially but love & attraction is on a high in those same initial years so the weirdness is easily accepted and apprehended as a natural occurrence and nothing disgusts/irritates the spouse later on. Instead, when you ain’t doing your bizarre stuff is when your partner will know something has gone wrong and you need help. ‘
2. count the spouse as a blessing in your life: turning into 7 , this is one thing I swear works and sticking on to it will prove fruitful during the 10th, 25th or even 50th anniversary (if you are alive and ready to cut the cake with dentures). Even today, on days when I am angry, frustrated or even PMS-ing I look at my husband NOT as someone who has no understanding of women but as a blessing that balances my life. I give a vague thought to what would have life been without this anchor in my life. He has been send as a blessing that I never count when I thank God for all the other happiness HE has showered on me & my family.
Life could have been better had I married someone else or fallen in love with someone else but one never knows… it could have been worse too !! how can I discount the fact that I have lived such beautiful memories with my husband and there are infinite of those in the future too. Count your spouse as a blessing in your life, just the way you are thankful for having wonderful parents or nature around you or the numerous materialistic pleasures.
3. learn to feel his pain: be a part of his worries and his dilemmas. Learn to share his pain as much as you would love to be a part of his celebrations. There is nothing that a human wants more than to share life with someone who can feel his pain or share his worries with. Try and see if you can help. On days and times when you cannot help but want them to know you care and feel pain, just cook a warm meal or stay awake with them without saying a word while they are working away late nights… they will appreciate you for being THE perfect ONE.
courtesy : google
4. invest into something really expensive together: this way, there is nothing mine and yours to fight about. Everything remains “ours” to celebrate with. And by this I do not mean having a baby! the baby will soon grow up and move on its path and you will be left with a void that can end with a separation after 2 or so decades… by investing I mean in a club membership or a holiday or a property that you both can proud to show off and enjoy it together. A good investment only demands your money once, and proves fruitful for the rest of your life- like a harras of horses or a yatch or even a farmhouse/weekend home.
a random one…
5. growth is just a number: never count how many years you spend together, how many days you need to celebrate like 8 years since you proposed me, and 10 years since you first told me you love me etc… they wont seem attractive sooner or later… instead count your blessings together, check how much have you grown together as a couple. the grey hair and wrinkles will definitely grow and so will the love an understanding to an infinite level.
moments to cherish…
6. surprise them: simple to understand and more simple to follow it, surprise them once in a while by baking their favorite cake or just a dinner at his/her favorite place. Nothing romantic or mushy (although a pinch of it never hurts!) but just a surprising gesture to show how much you love and care. I send him flowers for no reason, he takes me to my favorite coffee shop where we do not speak a word or chat on the way but being there in front of him sipping away my favorite brew is a feeling more achieved than words at times…
As simple as it sounds, it’s the most difficult thing I have done for Dhruvaan. I heard so many friends doing it at 6 months or 11 months and even at 2 years! While I was sitting here on four-leg stool after 4 years of motherhood trying to finally achieve it.
Well, I take the blame entirely on myself. I was always more concerned on developing traits such as empathy and values and thought potty training will happen on it’s own. I will also blame a teeny weeny bit on my son for always fnding it secur eto do it in his underpants and diapers rather than on the potty seat. I had to pay for it in a hard way when D was about to turn 4, going to begin a new schooling year in an entire new school 2 months later and also going to be the last of his friends to be trained to use the potty seat on his own.
he has had pressures at the most awkward places
Sometime in March I began working as a full time professor and hence my laid back nature became a worry! How will he manage at the bigger school where he will be staying for half a day! What will happen to him if he feels the pressure to vacate in the school hours? Or worse, on his bus ride which is about 30 mins long. I could totally trust my mother in law to take care of him in my absence while at home but what in school? I was afraid he will feel ashamed for not being able to casually use the toilet like other kids.
We were already off diapers before he was 3 years old but potty… he was shit scared of sitting on a seat and using it. He would rather stand aloof in a corner and finish it in his training pants and expect me or my m-i-l to do the cleaning part for him.
so i had to think of an idea
Every time someone wondered why I couldn’t potty train him yet, I always replied; ‘it can wait’
I started learning more of it on Pinterest – how to potty train in 12 easy steps. how to train in less than 48 hours !! And they were many in number.
We read books together and got him to try and sit while I sat in front of him showing him a perfect body language to push it out…
it didn’t help. George influenced him but couldn’t help him instantly.
A week later I came across an app called “potty training game” by Russpuppy.
This was the game changer. He played it so many times that probably he got a feel how easy it was for everyone to vacate when the need arises.
More than anything else my secondary reason to download this was because it had a bear who played and played and went to the loo when needed… same was the story base of the book we were reading that he played and played and ran back home to use the loo when he felt the need.
The storyline connection really helped. He was trained in about a couple of days only some time in May 2017 and he began school in June 2017. Writing the post in September just to confirm the practice was consistent. We no longer use the app; but I must say the results are apt to what it should be doing and also inculcating the good habits post vacating.
This makes me feel what a wonderful thing technology is. I must have been taunted by a handful of people on why I shouldn’t be giving my mobile phone to the kiddo… well said, but #facepalm it helped me solve a major issue which your taunts didn’t help solve. #highfive
THANK YOU GEORGE
OR WHATEVER YOUR ACTUAL NAME IS.
Moral of the story:
1. you kid will learn to poop only when he/she is confident himself/herself
2. Technology is good better and best if you know how to use it wisely
3. animals (more specifically bears) teach us a lot
4. it’s okay for a mom to get help from outside. Not every mom has to be a perfect trainer.
So here we are on a really hot summer evening and where i live, there are no breezy evenings to feel better. my son is almost always dressed in boxers and a vest all day long.
He gets super bored in afternoons when we curfew his movements outside the house to play around, so to being in some joy in his already joyous life i bought this packet of 12 sea animals capsules that i found on a rack at a gift store. am not really a fan of magical toys but what the heck! anything to make my baby happy. YO!
and i thought of doing a review for my readers.
i bought it for 80rs. and it has 12 capsules paper minted pack in various colors.
sorry for the impatience my son has
my impatient baby tore it open before i could take a picture but it looked good whatsoever.
these capsules need to be placed in water where the upper plastic like layer dissolves and a foam like material in a sea animal shape pops up, and floats on water like a normal sponge does.
we got a bowl of water excitedly and removed the capsules from the minted packs… put them in water.. saw it floating…
saw it floating…
saw it floating… … …
they wont magically blow up into sea animals!! huhhh//////
while waiting we even played a guessing game on what we shall find in each one of them:
D had high hopes they WILL open up but by that time i lost my patience and opened them up myself! the plastic covering had to be manually removed.
and I recorded the entire thing and put it right here….
well, i am not youtuber mommy, bare me with the quality. i am still learning and i shall be better next time.
p.s reminding myself to record horizontal next time.
it costed me 80 bucks, definitely not a buy if it takes so long for the magic to happen.
also, the packaging was not really high graded , per se the amount i paid for it. could have been better.
12 capsules but most of them were repetitive. kids dont touch things that repeat!
they also come in other styles such as animals etc. will try them for a lesser price.
worth a buy? well, maybe once if such things excite our baby and he/she is patient enough.
what else: makes a good birthday return gift considering the value and idea.
so here we were in a super chilled Kashmir in 2016 holidaying with a bunch of wonderful people.. about 17 of us! we didn’t wanna go back.
when i went to Kerela i thought there is nothing so heavenly like this place on earth, and then i went to kashmir a few years later and i knew there is nothing more beautiful than Kashmir. we loved the snow, the warmth and hospitality of people there and the food and the landscapes. it was a dream destination for my husband. his bucket list 2016 has kashmir written in bold letters and we made it to the most beautiful place on earth last year. upon our return we had our flights from Jammu after a two day stay at Vaishnodevi, Katara. Jammu was super hot, as if we are back to ahmedabad. whilst we were there in the city we caught up with some friend’s friends who happened to own a walnut factory there. they had farmers who would sell the whole walnuts to them and they would then break it and sort out according to size and color and package them likewise.
here is a brief post on ‘ my toddler visits walnut factory ‘ in pics.
i had these pics saved and stored on my phone and never really thought about writing and posting on it… recently D saw these and immediately recalled the entire sorting and packaging process i showed him. i was quite glad that this lad who can’t even make a W on his notebook without help could remember the entire sorting and packaging process at a walnut factory! no doubt he surprises me every time and i pen it down on the blog. the little brat doesn’t eat a walnut but knows the shells can be used in a facial and the kernels for oil besides eating.
kids of the 21st generation!!!
here is a pic by pic toddler visits walnut factory story.
totally nuts ‘family’
the humongous office of the factory consisted of very interesting facts and figures, on how to identify your good and bad nut according to size, texture and color. there are so many kinds of walnuts in itself! did ya know ? i didn’t! and i am glad now my son knows it too. we can show it off at school meetings. hahaha and now you can download this pic from our pinterest page and do some showing your knowledge yourself too!
the humble hansraj family we visited who treated us with a factory tour and the most delicious north indian breakfast that actually kept me full till the evening. the size of the rasgulla they served was bigger than my son’s fist.
the sorting happened in huge heaps, had it been my dad’s factory i would have jumped and swam in it like old duck uncle scrooge.
just cracking it up
lovely ladies who were cracking the medium sized lot for us to relish while we walked by the huge sorting and packaging machines.
the rainwater harvested walnuts freshly cracked are the sweetest of all, and i am so so glad and thankful to the hansraj family who showed us around and treated us like their own family.
ever grateful to our friends who took us there for a visit.
the airport selfie @jammu
the strolling got my little kangaroo tired. safe flight.
my son has been very fond of helping his mommy out in the kitchen ever since he turned 1 ! some days he would help me wipe the wet dishes or stack the utensils in a neat pile or even help me with ingredients from the fridge. too much to expect from a toddler to cook one day he expressed his wishes of baking a cake ! we baked a 3 step cake in 10 easy steps. yea… with a toddler making it the 3 steps turned into 10 at the end but the results were really yummy! and i thought of sharing my experience with you all.
his favorite teacher at school showed them how to bake a biscuit cake with out cooking using simple ingredients. which he could not recollect them all but he wished to bake one on his own. giving an ‘ awww, i love you sweetie’ hug to him we went to the supermarket next door. yes, i live next to a supermarket thats open from 9 am to 10pm… i know you are jealous now ! hahaha… every mommy friend i know thinks i live next to luxury and i have no idea what a pain it is to them to go grocery or vegetable shopping with a kid. yes sweetheart i know how it is. and i thank my husband for buying such a property even before we got married… i gotta thank him everyday. hehehe
so we bought this pillsbury cooker cake box at a really good price. it came with a dry powder batter, a sachet of icing sugar and a sachet of rainbow sprinkles. i dunked into my freezer and found some dark chocolate and white chocolate chips from super foods and thought of using them for the cake to add some drama.
while i was reading the steps my son found the opportunity and perched himself on the kitchen platform and i just lost a chance of filming it all on the camera… this was his first time when he was allowed to sit on the kitchen platform ( i am one those super scared mommy who thinks all the wrong things will happen to my son! uff… no more negative thinking mom! just concentrate on the cake baking!). next time we will dress up right and put on some make up and take a good video. and at least avoid wearing a green ben10 vest over plum colored thermal! oh creep, this is not so cute 🙂
so here is the easiest ever cake recipe. thanks to pillsbury!
step. 1 :
open up the package and put the dry ingredients in a non stick microwave friendly bowl. add warm milk according to the package shown. we added 2 cups warm milk. it just says milk but my experience of baking told me it should be warm.
step 2: we added just a spoon of fresh cream to add the softness to the batter. the package didn’t specify.
the pillsbury box we loved.
i asked my son to mix the batter well until he sees a creamy texture. my little one tasted the batter about 10 times before we put it in the cooker! i find it dirty to put fingers in the batter but this podgy little fingers and the ‘ yummy… mumma its so nice mumma. really yummy..’ melted all my senses.
perched on the kitchen, my little cook.
step 4: put it in a double boiler cooker and close the lid without the whistle. don’t panic. nothing will happen. i strolled in and out of the kitchen worrying the cooker will blast but nothing happened! my khichdi once got spoiled but this cake won’t ! great invention or whatever the secret ingredient! (i wanted to add more sarcasm but my son was really excited for the cake).
keep the bear out of the kitchen for 30 mins. its difficult I know but gotta do it momma!
we bought a new box to play with, and a washing machine came free with it.
pull the container out. no wait. turn on the camera first and then pull the container out. take a fatafat quickest ever picture before the kid turns it upside down without you helping him to scrap out the sides and give a perfect tomb.
the cake was so super fluffy and perfectly brown.
step 7: let the minion first taste all the icing sugar and sprinkle and chocolate chips. wait, wait so more… until the tasting is done with. *brat*
his first try and looks near to perfect! tasted just perfect.
rainbow sprinkles and chocolate chips and all things sweet!
let him decorate as per his wish. don’t guide him. let the creativity flow. and mommy can just feel the aroma of the cake fill the kitchen and smell sweet.
step 9: congratulate him and take a lot of pictures. send it to his grand parents and uncles and aunts. and oh yes, the father of the kid who knows the kid is not potty trained but hell, the mommy can teach him to bake !
proud mommy moment
step 10 :
hog ! let him tell his experience over a video and pictures and feel the happiness and proud moment of being able to teach a kid how to bake a cake! put the pictures on social media and soak in all the sweet so cute omg wow lovely comments that follow the entire week !
and don’t tell anyone you bought a ready mix box from the shelf. tell them how he dirtied the kitchen and you smilingly cleaned it all while he ate the cake. drama woman ! drama!
last evening a really good friend called up and asked what can be given to her 1 year old twins- a boy and a girl- who are severely constipated. she is here for two of her medical treatments which actually means she is herself unwell… her daughter is cranky because she cannot pass her stool and the son is oh well.. just too playful but still constipated. ‘… american citizens that they are , there are possibilities that the babies are having trouble digesting our local water and plus the dust, pollution, jet lag! there are so many possibilities i said. its possible they don’t even like the indian toilets. ‘
‘its just poop!! kunj, just poop!! they are not forcing it out of their bodies, stop talking nonsense’ she shouted at me.
‘ok, give me a few hours. will talk to this amazing group of wats app mums i know who all have toddlers and must have passed through such a phase. they might give some ideas, until then give them lots of water and fibrous fruits.’ i replied aware with the frustration a mom feels when the kid is unwell… here she had two!
i then asked my amazing mommy friends on what to do to cure constipation… severe or just normal! here are some really helpful and natural remedies that helped my friends’s twins and i think shall help you too, readers! babies or toddlers, its just best to cure it naturally. and of course if not curable there are always wonderful doctors to help us out round the clock. here i am listing a few of them to help you, screen shot it… save it.. you never know when it shall be handy. and do show some love to the wonderful contributors with yours comments.
HOW TO CURE COMMON CONSTIPATION IN BABIES / TODDLERS :
1. give them water… lots of it and however they like it. as it is in glasses or straw bottles they love. or even with glucose or a hint of lemon n honey… they more the fluids the easier the out-flow will be.
2. Priyanka (a friend from surat) told me how she made sure her toddler has food that helped create soft motion since the child starting with milk and papaya a while later and a fibrous juice or orange after an interval… no solids that suck up body water in between. this helped the kid pass soft motion by afternoon.
specially for a heavily constipated kid its very important to keep them hydrated. excess of water will only result in a few more bathroom visits a day but less water means the kid will have a hard time pushing it all out. and which kid has the patience to sit on the seat until its all out?? until and unless you sit in front reading their favorite book or something ! hahaha… that can be fun. anyone has tried it?
3. this is my personal nuskha or to say something i developed according to my kid’s tummy-type. give them something that never stays in their tummy. for my kid its nuts ! overtime he has had his favorite street lorry peanuts that has been roasted on low flame. we buy him just a few because he cannot digest them at all… every time he has had it he has done an excess amount of potty! bits of nuts all over the bathroom floor that he could not control. we know that will happen so we give him nuts only at a time when he is either constipated or he is going to stay at home for the next few hours. its his favorite and we cannot say ‘no’ to him all the time, i just prepare myself to clean up the bathroom floor without making faces. so if your kid has a day when he cannot flush out you can consider giving any food that you know will definitely help drain out the dirt. for a few kids its warm milk or even boiled maize kernels that don’t stay in the body and along with it flushes out the body solids that has refused to move out.
4. has it been that the kid says … mumma i feel the pressure but its not coming out !!! well, try rubbing some vicks baby balsam or sudocream to the butt. create a warm bum. sounds sick but that helps. its the best on the spot solution. the warm bum will help ooze out. vaseline will help too. the excreta is too dry and hence the problem. if this is an everyday thing then read point no. 5
5. HEARD ABOUT MAGIC FOODS ? well, for constipated kids there are two awesome magic foods the nature has given us. 1. raisins and 2. oranges.
Nite (a friend from daman ) tells me how raisins that have been soaked at night and had in the morning helped her kid. raisins are high in iron that helps a bad tummy recover. and priyanka says oranges are awesome and best food for constipated babies because of high content of vit.C. i agree… logically both are fibrous and has immense water content that can drive the poop out. not only these two fruits help build immunity but also help clear the intestine. the best part both orange and raisins are available almost all through out the year. i can say that because my son is an orange lover and we have always stocked them in a dozen every week for almost 9-10 months last year in 2016. they are available fresh or imported.
6. a magic food i have always been treated with by my mom is M for… Mango ! its already warm in nature and having an entire one of this fruit that has been kept in room temperature clears the intestine on time. normally only available during the summers in india but if it works this summer with your kid you can always stash a 5kg pulp in storage when the season is about to end like my mom does. every time my son goes to visit her ; no matter what time of the year he has been greeted with aam-ras / mango juice. my mom peels the skin and cuts the mango into small uneven pieces and puts them in a plastic container with lid in the freezer as a storage making sure no water content is in the pulp or container. if your freezer is small you can also use zip lock bags. its always handy.
7. one way to make sure constipation doesn’t make a u-turn is to feed the kid yogurt in some or the other way. either as it is with lunch or dinner or make some dalia/raita with fruit n veggie bits in it or you may even cook in yogurt (google recipes that can be made). the probiotic bacteria that is found in yogurt is the best bad boy that treats a bad tummy. it can be had in constipation as well as loosies. it cane had to avoid both of these. once the kid is treated with the necessary natural ways to cure tummy problems they must be put on a diet that includes fibre as well as yogurt in any form.
8. just in case nothing of the above help and its been about more than a week since the child last pooped you must visit the doc. most of the times they suggest muout. a medicine that cleans the intestine and pushes the dirt out. this is a tried and tested medicine suggested by many moms but to be on a safer side just talk to your kid’s doc first before taking any medicine from a drug shelf. the above mentioned solutions are all natural.
if these help you do pass on the blog link to your friends and family and mommies in various groups over social media. lets help all constipated babies and kids have a healthy tummy.
i was JUST DONE with a crazy long Monday and was quite sure things would simmer down on Tuesday , where the brat would crib why school cannot be missed. and the husband would wake up hastily and leave the house and give me some peace. important things and meetings always happen on Monday, the dudhwala is always late on a Monday morning, and the superman maid is quite sleepy and slow. but not on a Tuesday, that day things start settling down. i woke up on time and started cooking. salad on Tuesday for the brat’s school tiffin. and mixed veg gujarati minus the sugar with lots of kitchen king and roti for the husband.
but this Tuesday seemed like a hangover from Monday… he started giving me sleepy looks and turned around such as to pose a crocodile yogasan giving me cues he won’t drop our son to the school today!. oh lord, not again. when will he realize the 3 year old that looks like him is actually his real son and he should be responsible towards him and his school schedule.
nevertheless i woke the brat up and asked him go to the washroom, wash his hands, wash his face , now say eeeew so that i can see your teeth and brush them well. now stand straight so that i can pull out the clothes. now don’t laugh while i scrub your armpits, now dried and now wear the underwear yourself. you can do that , right. no you don’t need me ! do it yourself as pinterest says !! now stand straight and look up while i comb your hair, now drink your milk while i strap your shoes. fast fast , no slowly, don’t choke yourself! husband is still on the bed looking at us from the corner of his eye. like he thinks i don’t know he is awake and still doing his famous crocodile asana. uff, I do my famous long and short jumps gathering things and dumping them in his yellow n blue bag while the kid is sipping milk like its scotch on the rocks, slowwwwwwlllyyy…
hey bhagwan, why did I marry Mr. PG?
Had he told me earlier he won’t help me with the kid’s stuff I would have… never mind, i love him still.
so i do my strides and marathon and the kid reaches school on time, i kiss him good bye and he waves me like the cutest ever chimpanzee !
when i come home my husband calls me cute names and says he needs a favor. i was in no mood to do all that cutie pie stuff in the morning, he senses it when i don’t respond to his smiles… so he told me directly: ‘ kunj, i need that long green stick type gift that is wrapped with a red shiny ribbon and that what is kept on office tables for prosperity thing types’
i stare at him and wanted to call him a pighead but i curbed my wishes and asked him instead to google and show me a picture so that i can understand what alien thing sits on a table for prosperity, i will literally cover my entire home with it if its true.
he could not find a green stick with red ribbon for prosperity online. even google got the joke. hi-fi !!
few minutes later he called from inside the bathroom and says its some chinese vastu shashtra and it comes in a glass bowl and it’s probably also a plant. i rolled my eyes and said ‘ are you looking for a bamboo shoot that stands straight in a glass bowl?’ ‘yes honey you are so smart, now go run and get me one from that nursery on the other side of the road’
‘are u crazy, at this hour ??’ i asked… ‘yup, please baby. i want to gift it to a client today. he is very important…’ when he saw i wasn’t responding to his baby names, he added ‘… i am planning a europe trip next summer for the three of us. ‘
bugger, here he does it again.
ten minutes later i am at the nursery in my track pants and a silly tied up high bun on the head asking for the feng shui bamboo plant which the still sleepy care taker didn’t have. went to a posh gift shop next door and asked if he has one too. they had dreamcatchers and laughing buddha statues so i called the brat’s dad and asked if a dreamcatcher is okay to be gifted to the client. my husband thinks dreamcatchers are for girls, yes, like bamboo has a ‘i am for men’ label… oh lord, had i known this before i would have married… never mind, i still love him.
when i reached home, PG was dressed in his best white shirt and proclaimed he is the best looking dude in his office. of course, i smiled. i still loved this disorganized man i thought while i poured myself a chai and sat with my smart phone to finish the online cafe store orders for the day. yes, i cook some exotic dishes there, some i can’t even pronounce. while i was on the verge of earning 325 dollars for a tea with tapioca and cardamom and fee diamonds for the hospitality from a strange looking aged man my dream game was interrupted with a call from PG.
‘go find the bamboo plant in a glass bowl and drive to my office immediately. see you. love you. bye.’
fifteen minutes later i saw the pending work in the kitchen and cursed the aged man and 325 dollars tea while i closed the main door shut and slipped into the driving seat, reached the nearest flower shop and purchased the greenest looking bamboo plant with red ribbon around and green soft shoots placed in a glass bowl and colorful pebbles. paid and got it tied in a transparent sheet. few songs on radio and i was in my best mood ever, now i only wished to have a starbucks in hand and a sports car. i did find a plant and i was so super proud to have reached his office in straight 30 mins after he called. like a pizza delivery on time. or the maid who comes home after a 30 day holiday ! hahahahaha
i was in my best maxi dress, wavy hair and black slim glares. he saw my car, he saw the plant in my hand, he said ‘perfect’ , turned around and left. what the …. bleep bleep bleep!
he called me later and i complained, he said ‘… sorry babes, was in a hurry. but have you ever looked bad? you are the best looking wife…’
‘you ever had? ‘ i asked.
we laughed and he thanked me for being so helpful. ‘ i am your jeevan sangini after all. ‘, i smiled and said.
if only i knew this guy would make me run on a weekday like its the last day of the financial year for things that he should have planned the day before and like its not even my duty to make sure his client gets gifts … i would have married… him! just him.
summer , winter, rain or fall
you are the one i always call.
happy 5th anniversary hubby !
my son and I went to this weekend flea market where everything was super costly and extravagant, what i learned was- buying from exhibitions means spending all important cash on useless items.
what my son learned- huge gardens are fun and elephants are yellow and blue.
loving the lazying around
he particularly loved this installation and played around this elephant most of the evening. now grey elephants are so bookish for him because real elephants are colorful! we often see temple elephants on the streets… painted with beautiful pinks and yellows and green hues and then came this one- yellow and huge!
since that day i have never stopped his imagination. we often color cows in blue and lions in pink. we particularly love decorating kites with various sketchpens because they are all beautiful and more the colors more fun they look!
often i see parents restrict their kids with lots of rules and regulate their behavior.
D does like gardens and slides but if he gets to run his trucks and cars in sand and dirt he has his best time of the day! i let him do what he likes. he dirties his hands and knees, his hair often has specks of gifts from nature collected on the playground… i often shout at how he never listens to me to play indoors but hey, he did that for 30 months… now he wants to play outside and this mommy won’t say no! he weaves stories of how his truck is running on a difficult sloppy mud slide and conquers the demon like road! hahaha… have we all done that in our childhood already ?? yes, we have!!
4 of the 30 existing
if trucks are for muddy plays… let them do that!
if elephants are yellow, say yes!
do humans have wings?? yes, they r just not visible , they lay inside the tiny mind of the kid. tiny for us and gigantically grand for them. so many questions and so many beautiful colors that THEY PERCEIVE.
around the time when i will turn 30 i am assuming i will see the world in only three colors- black , white and grey. whereas my son has more shades of every colour than i have in my wardrobe… ready to be painted across his own world.
why do we restrict them to rules ? why can’t we just let them be kids when they are already?
i hate parents who treat their 3 year old like a 10 year old and expect him to show the same maturity in his talks, mannerisms and even conduct!
i can go on talking and arguing about why kids should be let free to play n learn on their own and paint the walls and roll in the mud and play with caterpillars and catch the butterflies in a jar! smash a window with a ball and leave the leftovers for the dog. sleep under the stars and kiss the kittens.
but for now i am too busy to talk about it—–
because we painting the bat green and purple
